The Blizzard

Blue sky, red rock, green trees, colors swirl on sun’s bright beam

And as we walk along our way, layers shed to start the day

While the climb grows ever higher jovial voices make the trek seem brighter

So as the darker skies roll in, and wind starts howling greater din

Attention fails to notice, ominous clouds of stormy hindrance.

Until summit’s elation at the peak quickly turns to trouble bleak

For standing while on the mountain tall comes toward a swirling snowy wall

Like inky black of creeping night the road below swallowed up with white.

With the wind’s push a constant scream The sudden strength howls extreme.

The way is lost beneath the flurries as the elements drive with hellish fury.

A scramble then ensues as fighting elements a retreat pursued.

But hazard awaits on every side with sheer cliff walls contain our flight.

Soon after waiting minutes long, calm returns to the mountain’s song.

Snowy beauty all around greets the eyes on the trek back down

Earlier color of varied hue now wrapped in creamy snow subdued.

Till finally with descent complete it’s now time to enjoy a feast.
